Beyond Addiction Training Program for The Veteran Population: “Recover Your True Self”

The BA “Recover Your True Self” program is a platform to assist veterans in resolving their issues of trauma of separation from the Self.  According to Dr. Gabor Mate, “Trauma is actually what happens internally to us. It happens on the body level, on the level of the psyche as a response to adverse  external conditions.“ The trauma often results in suffering with PTSD, and other mental and physical health issues. In an attempt to resolve these issues, one often seeks relief in adaptive ways that have a negative impact on our relationships with ourselves, others and the world around us.

During this program participants will have an opportunity to practice yoga, breath and mindfulness exercises to enhance the “relax and restore” part of their nervous system. As it is brought back into balance, veterans suffering from PTSD start to re-establish relationships with their own true needs and desires, and allow for an opportunity to, “Recover Your True Self.”

The above practice in a group of like-minded people will support veterans in discharging the memory of trauma, strengthening the nervous system, balancing the glandular system, and harmonizing the energy systems of the body.

Online interactive meetings will be led by a team of instructors for 16 weeks. These live zoom sessions (2.5 hours each week) will offer specialized guidance and take into consideration the complex physical and mental health issues of veterans. We meet a second time each week on zoom (60-90 minutes), in smaller groups to check in on the participants’ process and progress with that week’s material. As appropriate, the instructors will use the Compassionate Inquiry method developed by Dr. Gabor Mate to provide additional support.
